BFIS AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Want to become an entrepreneur? Or perhaps learn to make claymation videos? Or maybe biking or running is your thing. Would you like to get into better condition and learn new techniques? Or perhaps you want to produce a monthly radio program? All of this and more are featured activities in this years after school program! As always these activities are designed to complement the academic side of BFIS by allowing students to flourish in artistic and athletic endeavors. The school strives to build citizens of the world who are fully rounded and activities outside the classroom are essential.

The list of activities is organized by the day of the week on which they take place.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR:

All inquiries about BFIS activities should be addressed to Ato Chandler at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

REGISTRATION:
The deadline for registration is TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2009

SCHOOL YEAR SCHEDULE:
Activities begin on OCTOBER 5 and run until MAY 31, 2010. (Please note that Swimming will start on October 1!)

SIGN UP SHEETS:
They are attached to this letter. Registration forms will also be available at the school reception. Once completed, they should be handed to Lola (at the main office) or to Ato Chandler, After School Program Coordinator.

MINIMUM OF PARTICIPANTS FOR THE ACTIVITY TO RUN:

All activities need at least 4 participants.

TIME:
Most run from 4:20 to 5:20 pm.

PROCEDURES:
Attendance will be taken at each class.
All ES children involved in the After School Program  will go to the main patio at the end of the school day and supervised until the Activity Teacher comes and picks them up and escorts them to the class at 4.15pm.
At the end of the activity all ES children are escorted back to the main patio and supervised until they are picked up (please be on time).

Depending on the class, all MS/HS children involved in the After School Program are expected to go directly to the class where the activity will take place. When the activity ends, all MS/HS pupils will be dismissed and free to leave the school. If there are any alternative arrangements you would like made, please inform the activity teacher.

FEES:
Under the heading for days of the day week will be the information regarding how many sessions the activity meets per semester and the total cost for each semester. This system allows for one payment to be made for each semester separately or for one payment to be made for the entire year. For certain activities the prices are also determined by whether the student participating is in elementary school or middle/high school. The prices are different because some activities include both elementary and middle/high school students together, but there are a few weeks when middle/high school students are not on campus and elementary students are and will still attend their activity. Since the cost of the activity is determined by the number of times the activity meets, the price has been adjusted accordingly.

Please note that there are several activities (such as Math club, Swimming, Running Club, etc.) which have different fees- specified under the description of the activity.

PAYMENT:
All payments should be made to Imma Sanchez in the Business Office. She can be contacted at +34 93 434 2380 Ext. 16. Payments can be made by cash or cheque, or directly over the telephone by credit card.

RAINY DAYS:
Activities are never canceled because of the weather. Teachers will provide alternate indoor activities when there is inclement weather.

CANCELLATIONS:
One month advance notice is required when removing a student from an activity and then a refund equal to the remaining session will be made.

This is for all the parents who haven’t picked up a paint brush in years or can’t make time in the week to be creative. While you are waiting for your child, why not do something nice for yourself? We will spend each hour creating crafts ranging from bookmaking to collage, holiday gifts to painting, jewelry making to pottery, or whatever you want to make. Have fun meeting other parents and creating beautiful things!

2.

Cooking 4 Kids!

PreK to Grade 1

Vanessa Carlini

The idea is for kids to enjoy and participate in making simple recipes, each week we will have a different recipe and the children will have their own recipe book, where they can write or draw what we are making for the day. The ideal place would be our school kitchen, baking will happen once or twice a month, so we won’t use the oven often.

Parents who are interested in enrolling their child will have to pay an extra amount to cover the cost of ingredients and recipe book.

Cooking is something I really enjoy doing with my students and I think it would be a great experience for them! We will bake, decorate cupcakes, make holiday food and have fun cooking! Maximum of 10 children.

3.

Garden Club

A multiple of three club members from High School and Middle School will be selected to represent BFIS in the corresponding competition. The club will involve one after school session on Mondays to practice logic reasoning and problem solving strategies. Eleven sessions will be offered first semester to all students.

Students representing BFIS at these competitions will be selected at the end of the first semester. Students involved in the senior competition will have four additional sessions; students involved in the junior one, two additional sessions, and students involved in the MS competition, ten additional sessions in the second semester.

The Senior (12th grade) competition will be held in Berlin 26-28 February; the Junior (9th and 10th grade) competition will be held in Paris 5-7 February. BFIS will host the MS competition to be held April 24 – 25. More information will be sent soon.

The price is 200€ for Seniors, 180€ for Sophomores, and 290€ for 8th MS students, due to the different number of weeks to prepare for the competition.

Parents and students will be given additional information regarding math club sessions in the second semester.
